Our boys are having difficulty sleeping through the night, by themselves. If they are allowed to sleep together or in the same room (Alex has a twin bed and toddler bed in his room) then they're okay but for most nights we find them in our room at some point throughout the night and it's really starting to get annoying! I love my guys but mommy likes her quality sleep.
So, Aaron's answer is to get bunk beds for the boys and move them into Alex's room. Talk about giving a mom nightmares!!! I checked out the bunk beds at IKEA today and the top bunk has a full railing and is about 5 feet high. I can see onto the top bunk without being on my tippytoes and I'm 5'6". I think the boys are too young 5 and 3 1/2 but if they'll sleep better than maybe it's worth a shot. Joseph was out of his crib and into a mates bed (the kind with the drawers underneath) when he was 14 months old and Alex switched from his crib to his race car bed when he was 10 months old.
The boys rooms' just got makeovers at Easter time but luckily they're Spiderman and Batman so we could incorporate everything into a superhero theme...but I'm not sure I'm ready for BUNK BEDS!!!

Hey Les, I'm browsing the blogs pretty late tonight and thought I'd share what Alli has here at her place.
Alli has both her older boys in a bunkbed and has for a few months now. Zach is 6 and on the top bunk with a safty railing that goes all the way around the top, and Nathan is 3 and on the bottom. The bed is pushed up against the wall in the corner as well. They like sharing a room and sometimes end up sleeping together on the same bed when they fall asleep playing. Nathan rarley ventures up to the top bunk without help from an adult, and on the rare occasion he has, he calls for help because he can't manover the ladder when climbing down. The bunk bed is the wooden type as opposed to the metal ones, and both beds are twin size as opposed to the bottom being double, this saves lots of space in the bedroom. Hope this helped a bit!
Krista.
I say go with whatever gets you the most sleep! Even if it's two beds on the ground....... Our friends son have a bunk bed and often the 3 year old will climb up and sleep on the top bunk....
Good Luck!
Jenn
I have to say bunk beds are great. If there is a decent guard rail up top, then there should be no worries. The twins started sleeping in one when they were 5(Chris converted their single beds into the bunk), and they loved it, the boys all sleep in bunks, except colin cause there's no use for a top bunk. All in all, bunk beds are pretty cool.
Lesley, you and your sister shared bunk beds in Kingston the first time around when Uncle David came to visit/stay.
They worked well. I'm sure the safety features have been vastly improved since then.
One major - for me anyways - drawback was what a pain in the *ss to make up in the morning. And changing the sheets was worse... you have to climb up there and sort of do it while on the bed. Not a pretty sight!!!!
You girls did have a lot of fun making the bottom bunk into a fort with old sheets. You'd (is that a real word???)crawl in with your dolls, books and flashlight and giggle for what seemed to be hours!
