I have got to come up with a new Sunday routine!

We usually start off our Sunday with a healthy breakfast of French Vanilla Cappucino's and donuts from Tim's...that's probably part of the reason why I'm maintaining this figure of mine. LOL! And then we peruse the Sunday paper and go through flyers...
So, today, I'm reading the paper (it's the only paper I read all week so I tend to read it cover to cover) and I come across the classified announcements and read that one of my former students is being petitioned by the courts for permanent custody of her child born in Dec '05. At first I thought it must have been an error but she had a rather unusual name and then I started calculating how old she must be now. I think I have it figured out that she's 16 or 17 now. I used to work with her on reading skills and must admit she was one of my 'pet' students. Mom can attest to how devastated I was when she ran away from home, I think I cried for the entire time she was gone. You just never know what could happen to a young girl these days. I always hoped that I'd have some impact on her life or the lives of the other kids I've helped out over the years but not in this case.
Maybe I'll skip those ads from now on, it was a little more disturbing than it should have been. Aaron's mom also worked at the elementary school that I worked at and it's being closed this year due to low enrollment/poor structure so the school is having a reunion party for former staff and students. Hopefully there are some real success stories!
Bargain Baby Shopping has officially begun (once again). Aaron told me to hold back and we'll buy something big for the Christmas baby but I thought I'd take a peek at Superstore to see what they had and I found a vibrating bouncy chair on clearance for $9. You just can't beat that price, and that is one of the things I gave away already...like so much other stuff...but this one is nicer than the one I had (which I thought was pretty hot stuff). And all babies deserve some new stuff to go with the shared goods. Now I just need something for the Mommy to be...H always bought me these wicked massage cocoa cake thingys to help moisturize to prevent stretch marks (which worked quite well) but unfortunately for H the store that sold them isn't around anymore. Guess that could be my next quest, to find a good belly jelly.

Happy 200th Post Everyone!

Finally! Someone will call me Auntie Lesley !

I won't say it's about time but you know that's what I'm thinking! Congratulations Heather and Jeff! Aaron and I are pretty thrilled to be official aunt and uncle to your wee little babe! I'm sure the boys will be excited to have another cousin to play with!

What a great way to kick off the weekend!

Bunco night was just as fun tonight as it was last month! Heather missed out but I must admit that Christina was a pretty good substitute!

Here's an Alex video shot by Joseph

By forewarned - it's a little shaky and Joseph spun around in a few circles. Gotta love the kids' viewpoint sometimes!

Joseph being Joseph

Today seemed like a prime time to shoot a little video, Joseph was being his typical silly self and then I let him take a video of Alex which I'll try and post tonight.  It's a little shaky, you may need to take some gravol first!

Thank goodness it's almost the weekend!

It's been a rather uneventful week but I'm ready for the +24 weather we're supposed to get this weekend. Hopefully they'll start up the water fountain in our neighbourhood in the next few days, now that Alex likes the hot tub I'm hoping he'll like running through the water too. One of my dayhome boys is finished on Friday and I've decided not to replace him until September, that way there'll be two less kids (one of the parents is a teacher and has the summer off) so maybe just maybe the rest of us can be more adventurous and do more outings. We have two parks we visit all the time but it would be nice to walk the extra 2 blocks for something different. We've got Joseph enrolled in a one week zoo camp for the last week of July and we're hoping to enroll him in an outdoor camp for the second week of July. I think with our holidays and two weeks of camp that should keep him stimulated enough this summer.
Bunco night's tomorrow and poor Heather's going to miss it.Oh well, I'm sure she'll have fun at Mom's too.

Cinderella really wants to go the ball...

but unfortunately Aaron's schedule doesn't work in our favour. I'm sorely disappointed! Kathryn and Jeff invited us to the Regimental Ball and Aaron has to work so we can't go. Mom pointed out to me that the last really formal do we've attended was our wedding. We've gone to many weddings and Christmas parties but this is a ball we're talking about. So, poor me will stay at home and hope Kathryn takes pictures and gives me a complete play by play of the evening including fancy dresses and 'dos, my favourite part!
Tonight was the usual dayhome meeting, we're having it monthly now, so in theory they should be short and sweet meetings but it still managed to be over two hours of talking about potty training and different ways to get kids to eat. Being secretary turned out to be not much work because we didn't really talk about anything worth recording, except the next date and who was hosting.
We are planning a Ladies Night though, but I'll see it to believe it. I go out quite a bit with stamping, bunco, dayhome meetings and school stuff so I'm not sure how receptive Aaron would be to me adding another night out...just wait until Kathryn moves to Cochrane (as early as June) and we start with the wedding plans. Maybe Jeff and Aaron can start a poker night?! Oh wait, that would interfere with my nights out wouldn't they?

You thought I had too much time on my hands!

This is my competition! One of Joseph's classmates always sends home cute little homemade things at holidays like we do but we were definitely outdone for the birthday party! We brought cake and chocolate milk to school and sent treat bags for everyone. Well these parents have invited everyone for a BBQ at their summer cottage. It's a weekend we're away so we won't be bringing Joseph but that takes a lot of planning and patience! I don't think I could have 18+ kids to try and keep track of, especially out in the wilderness. And the invites alone took a lot of imagination. Each one was rolled up and tucked into a corked bottle with some sand/seashells in it.

Weekend away

We had a great time at Mom and Dad's this weekend! The boys and I had a cold but that didn't stop them from going full speed ahead at the playgrounds and in the hot tub. I think this weekend is the most time I've ever spent in the tub, it seems that I was always pregnant during tub season or watching Alex (who didn't like the water until this weekend) and got stuck being the towel girl/bartender.
We didn't do anything terribly exciting, mostly just hanging out. I woke up feeling better this morning and Aaron woke up with the sore throat...the beginning of the cold.
Mom and Dad have made the final decision to travel with the truck and trailer, they were waffling for a bit with the price of gas, but have decided to go ahead as planned. This week we'll finalize our plane tickets, hopefully we can sneak a flight a day or two earlier than scheduled and be there for the long weekend. We'll have to see how lucky we are though.
Aaron and Dad picked out a new Volkswagon Beetle for Mom, I can't remember if the colour is celery or minty green. Aaron thinks it suits Mom to a tee, now to just convince Dad to buy a car that's not red!

PS - Mom, Joseph added $2.87 to his piggy bank today, it seems he filled his pockets from your change dish while getting his shoes on today.

This is for all you snowbunnies down East

The boys made a quickie video for you guys, just to show off our fabulous +22 weather today. We had to actually use sunblock today. I have to admit that I missed this kind of weather more than I realized. We spend most of our spring/summer outdoors at the parks or in the backyard.

Aaron did actually mention that we may see some white fluffy stuff later this weekend, so we'll gloat and enjoy it for the short time it lasts.

Alex is ready for a picnic!

Yeah, that's my boy looking all cute and innocent! I heard tonight that it's actually supposed to hit plus 20 tomorrow.  I guess Mother Nature decided not to punish me for packing away the snowgear.  (Thank you Mother Nature, the kids and I really appreciate this great weather!)  So now it's time to dig out all of the sunhats and sunscreen to grease ourselves up with. Ugh! I just remembered how well sand sticks to greased up arms and legs...oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do!

Yeah ! I got the job!

What job would that be? Why, assistant to the bride, AKA, matron of honour. Yippee!! You know I was really hoping/praying...and just about begged but managed to wait for Kathryn to bring it up. She said "you know you'll be my maid of honour/matron of honour thingy, right?" I was almost hoping for something a little more dramatic like a nice little speech about how great I am and the bestest friend in the whole wide world but then it all came rushing back about how I asked her if she wanted to be Joey's godmother..."So, Aaron's picking his best friend so I want to pick my best friend too, got to keep it even, right?" Well, we're even now!
The good news is that even though Kathryn and Jeff live in Whitecourt, they are planning on getting married here in Calgary (at the zoo, in fact) and are hoping to be moved down to Cochrane by then.
Life just seems to be so busy lately although I'm not sure why. Not much has changed, I'm the secretary for the Dayhome Association and we're having our first official meeting next Tuesday so I can try out my meeting minute skills. I don't have the luxury of a laptop and don't know shorthand so it won't be pretty, guaranteed. Although a lot of these meetings are just the dayhome ladies comparing notes about monthly rates/holiday pay, so I'm sure I'll be able to keep up to the important stuff.
We're planning an impromptu trip to Morinville Friday night, Aaron had a schedule change and heard the hot tub is up and running and calling his name. Joey's going to miss his swimming classes on Sunday but I'm sure he'll get his fill of tub time...if he practises his starfish floats then I guess we'll call it even!
If Kathryn's groom is wearing his RCMP red dressy outfit (I can't think of the official name) then what colour would go with that? I've been sending Kathryn some dresses from the uglydress website...in retaliation she's threatened me with a perm!

I can't believe the weekend's almost over already!

We had a busy weekend, it seems to have just flown by! Thursday was my party, Friday we hung around the house with the boys while Dad and Aaron went out to try Aaron's new gun, boy were they ever sore from shooting when they came home! We had our turkey dinner Friday evening, just the immediate family this time, which is really strange for our family to have such a small gathering! Saturday we headed down to Medicine Hat to visit Papa Johnston, he seemed to be having a 'good day' and showed a lot of recognition, when it was time to leave Joseph ran over to give him a big hug and just about knocked him over! I think Papa enjoyed the love though, Joseph then gave all of Papa's friends hugs before we left which I think probably made their day. Today Mom and Dad left for Morinville and the boys, Aaron and I made a quickie trip to Crossfield to pick up Aaron's brother, his truck broke down on the side of road so we went out to rescue him. Now none of us seem to have enough energy to do much of anything, the kids are all played out from their new scooter/trike/soccer ball nets...and Aaron and I are pretty tired just trying to keep up with them!
Happy Easter Everyone!

Pictures/Video of 80s Night

Yes, the video is sideways...we were trying for a picture and duh! the setting was for movie...it was pretty funny though because I have a few of these little clips. We just couldn't figure it out! Makes for interesting video clips though!

Heather is modelling a lovely Chip & Pepper t-shirt circa mid-1980s while Les (who appears to be trying for a piggyback ride) is sporting the black tank dress with fishnets complete with a hole (compliments of Alexander), fingerless gloves, studded bracelets, bracelets galore, bazooka joe socks and some big poufy crimped hair! Ta da!

PS - The curtains were retro for the party!

Wow! What a party!

I've got a picture of Heather and I kickin' it 80s style which I'll post later, actually, Mom had it on video and we couldn't figure out why the picture wouldn't work...maybe we'll post the mini video, it's way funnier!
So we had about 14 ladies attend the party and we played some games, did the Partylite bit, ate lots of food, had some cocktails and socialized.
What's the best way to start a party than a hilarious story?!? God Bless Aaron's mom Deb, we love her, really we do, and she started off the evening for us...at my neighbour's house! Deb came with her girlfriend Gloria and Auntie Arlene and they parked across from my neighbour's house and apparently she went up the front porch, knocked on the door, took off her shoes, went in, was chatting with Jacquie (my neighbour who was at my party)'s mother in law who was babysitting...then realized she was at the wrong house. Poor Joan (the mil) didn't know why these ladies were over but assumed they were friends of Jacquie's...poor Deb...will never live this one down! We've lived in our house for 3 years now and they've been over hundred's of times, maybe Deb started early on the cocktails!
Some of the girls dressed up, thank goodness, I didn't want to be the only one with crimped hair...Jacquie even managed to get the 4 inch high teased bangs! That's what girlfriends are for, right?

On a totally different but yet exciting note we're adding another member to our extended family tree! There's been an engagement, not Heather...
Uncle Jeff is going to make an honest woman of our dear Auntie Kathryn! We are just thrilled! I still can't believe that she didn't phone me to tell me but in all fairness it was really late...little did she know but at the same time I was waxing my mainfloor and could have really used a break! They've already decided on a May 2007 wedding...soup diet here I come! Most of my family knows Auntie Kathyn, we met about 5 years ago at the elementary school I worked at and have been inseperable since...well until she moved to Whitecourt but figuratively speaking I think we're still pretty much inseperable. Kathryn was rooting for a boy when I was pregnant with Joey because our girl name was Katherine Elizabeth and coincidentally she's also a Kathryn Elizabeth. The same night Joey was born Kathryn drove through an almost blizzard to come see him...she also shared an entire tub of gummi bears with Aaron as the nursing coach was squeezing my boobs into cheeseburgers to help out with the nursing (there's just no dignity after that!) Neither of them have eaten gummi bears since then. Auntie Kathryn is godmother to Joseph and has been there for all of his firsts...first road trip to Morinville, first shopping trip to the mall, first overnight babysitting when Aaron graduated Funeral Director School, first trip to the swimming pool...and so many more! We've only met Jeff a few times but he fits right in with us, doesn't hurt that he's a huge hunter so him and Aaron can talk forever about that. He makes Auntie Kathryn pretty happy so that makes us happy too! Welcome to the family Uncle Jeff!

24 Hours In Counting...

Until the big 80s bash! I've pretty much got everything ready to go, the house is spotless (until all the dayhome kids wreak havoc in the morning, that is) the food's been prepped, games organized, prizes put together. Now I'm just anxious to git-r-done! At last head count there will 15 ladies attending, should be an interesting evening.

Heather went to the zoo with Joseph and his class today and had a great time. Joseph listened really well and even turned down a celebratory Happy Meal, I think he's happy enough just hanging out with his auntie.

So, while H and Joey were having fun at the zoo, I was at home doing cut and paste easter egg activities with 5 tots. Guess who had more fun?

Monday, April 10, 2006

Only 3 more sleeps until party night!

And I seem to have everything under control but the day of the actual event will be a busy one I'm sure!
Heather and I got all of the prizes and games figured out this weekend, I've got all of the food and drink stuff bought so it's just a matter of throwing it all together on Thursday.
I think the most time consuming thing will be crimping my hair...if the daycare kids are co-operative that is. I promised Aaron to have an outdoorsy afternoon with the kids so Joey and Alex will go to bed without a huge fight. They usually go to bed between 7 and 7:30 and the party starts at 7 so hopefully the fresh air will wear them out a bit.
Good thing none of us have to work Friday! That's right Mom and Dad, Aaron got Friday off as well as Sunday/Monday....seems kind of stupid to make him work Saturday but he still does. I guess people can't plan their deaths around our long weekends...

What a busy Saturday!

This ones for you Madison!

Here's the product of Joseph's hard work today

Maybe Joseph will be a chef like the rest of the Mac. boys, right Papa? Uncle Paul? Uncle Dave?

Alex and his spoon climbing the rocks in the prehistoric part of the zoo

Joseph climbing the rocks too! This is his 'new look', the Harley jacket and motorcycle/flames hat...

We've have a super busy weekend so far.  Aaron has been over at Phil's making sausages like crazy and I've been entertaining my boys.  Tina and her family came down for the weekend so we had some overnight guests last night and then managed to get a couple hours of zoo time in today.

And we're off to swimming lessons in the morning! Hope you're all having a great weekend!

Hip Hip Hooray! It was a really quiet day!

Nothing too exciting happened around here today. The weather was really rainy and gloomy so the kids were in kind of a mopey mood. I'm not complaining because usually they go high-speed/full energy all day long until they collapse after bathtime! It was kind of nice to have a mellow day. The most exciting thing we did today was play with our Wikki Stix, they're wax covered yarn that stick to plastic (whiteboard, dishwasher, fridge) and bendable so we practised spelling everyone's names and made little pictures with them. Really exciting, eh?
Okay Jeremy I meant to ask earlier but forgot, do you always wear contacts or is that more for 'dressing up'? And can you see like normal when you wear them? You probably can but I just can' t picture it with the color all whited out.

Joseph being Joseph!

Thank goodness it's Spring!

Yeah! We can get back into our routine of backyard play in the morning as well as a walk around the pond or visit to the park! I was starting to feel a little housebound with the cold wet mucky weather so the change will do us all good. Now all I need to do is get Alex a Spring haircut and we're good to go, I keep waiting because every now and then I figure if it was longer he could have a hairstyle but it's too thick, it just gets fuzzy. So one 'little boy haircut' coming up.  I'll work on some Joseph pictures too...I try to keep it even but Joseph's in school in the morning when I'm taking pictures.

I hate Daylight Savings Time!

The boys were in bed at 8 last night which would be the usual 7 o'clock bedtime but they didn't sleep until 6 like usual...oh no...they were up from about 4 o'clock.  Needless to say by 8:30 Alex grabbed a pillow and was trying to have a nap. Yeah right, if I can't nap, neither can he! We'll have to tough it out for a few days and then I'm sure we'll be back on track. At least Joey can have a rest on the bus.  Hopefully!

Swimming was a success!

I went into the swim class with very little expectations and came out amazed and impressed! Joseph doesn't exactly excel at listening well when he's really excited but he was awesome today! He impressed everyone with his eagerness to make a starfish and stick his chin/mouth in the water. Alex wasn't thrilled with going to the neighbours at first (Aaron's working today) but he had a lot of fun and needed a little prodding when it was time to go home. Once Joseph is finished this program Sea Turtle, then he can go in an unaccompanied class and then it'll be Alex's turn to go in swim classes.

We've had a fairly quiet weekend, cousin Cindy, Dan, Brooklyn and Mackenzie came over for pizza last night. It's nice to kick and back and relax, the kids were really hyper but that seems to be the norm. when they get together. The kids stayed up until 10:30 last night and the one time they want to sleep in, I had to get them up so we could go swimming. It's just not fair!

I've got my 80s party all planned out, now I just need to find fishnet stockings and fingerless gloves to accessorize my costume. One of the Bunco girls mentioned she hosted an 80s party a couple years ago and actually squeezed into her grade 9 grad dress. Hilarious! Now if Partylite could get their butt in gear and update their website so I can send the guest specials with the 80s theme information then we're all set! I'm sure everyone has something from the 80s they can throw together...right Jeff?

Here are the new Bunco Queens!

What a fun night! Who would have thought rolling 3 dice could be so much fun! It wasn't a very late night but it was still nice to get out with the girls.  We carpooled with Jacquie and lo and behold we each one a prize last night, I was high score I think Heather was low score and Jacquie won the door prize.  Although it says martini glass...we all know they'll be used as my new shooter glasses! LOL!
