This is a house that's just down the street from us. It's 300 square feet smaller than ours but has a single garage and the balcony of course. It sold in less than 48 hours for $449,000! Isn't that insane?!? We bought our house for just under $200,000 three years ago. So, if we sold now we'd be loaded...homeless...but loaded.
Is the market like this Canada wide or just in Cowtown?

No, not like that here. Providing it is not waterfront, it looks like something that would sell for maybe $150K here. Maybe $200K if it was really nice inside. Our last place was 2 blocks from the beach, with 3 beds, 1.75 bath, all new windows, sunroom, huge deck, almost an acre of land with a garden & landscaping, older garage, new big garage with a half bathroom and an unfinished loft above, huge newly paved driveway big enough for 20 cars (not kidding), out of the fog belt and it sold for less than $140,000.
I guess it depends on location as well. Ours was in a very desirable neighborhood. The same house right in the middle of town near where I live now would have sold for about $110K at the time. But the market has gone up since then so maybe $130K now. It has jumped up since last year. Housing markets can change so fast, it is like the stock market sometimes. You want to buy low and sell high. If only it were that easy...
There was an article in the Calgary Herald over the weekend about a young couple with one child who were able to sell their house in Calgary and make enough to pay cash for a house in the Maritimes (didn't say where). Apparently, for those who can find work elsewhere, this is a new trend also. I don't want to know what my little townhouse would sell for because I'm staying put!
True, I know someone who had a huge mortgage on a new home in Toronto who paid for a little house on the water with cash when he moved to Saint John. Smaller towns do have their advantages.
The price of houses here is just rediculous. A house like that would go for half million easy.
The value of our house has already
gone up 50,000.00 in just 18 months. The house next door sold for 289,000.00 and they dont even have a finished basement plus we have 3 full bathrooms, they only have 2. we have centeral vac, hardwood floors, centeral air came with the place but we added alot to ours. Like Les said, we be loaded if we sold now, but then we woulnt be able to afford somewhere else to live.
I've got a solution for ya....why don't y'all sell your houses and move to New Brunswick?? Then you would all be rich...........ha ha.
Plus, I would get to see you all more. But hey, you'd be rich...
